About the community

A Divorce Support Community Built From Lived Experience

Nobody should have to untangle divorce alone. Unknotted is a calm, moderated community for people going through separation and divorce in the UK — a members’ club rather than social media, where you can ask anything and never be judged.

Not legal advice

Unknotted is not a legal advice service. This page was written by Katie, who is not a lawyer, mediator or professional of any kind — it comes purely from her own experience of going through divorce. Always check your own situation with a qualified solicitor, mediator, financial adviser or other relevant professional before making decisions.

What divorce community support actually looks like here

No feeds to chase, no performance, no advice-giving. Just people who understand.

1

Why a community helps more than another article

Information is everywhere. Being understood is rarer.

  • Talking to someone a few steps ahead of you shortens the panic considerably.
  • You can say the unsayable things here — the relief, the guilt, the anger — without being judged.
  • Practical tips from real separations tend to be far more useful than general advice.
  • Reading quietly counts. Plenty of members never post and still feel less alone.
2

What you’ll find inside

Organised, searchable and moderated — never a shouty feed.

  • Discussion topics covering the beginning, money and paperwork, children, court, work and starting again.
  • A Hope Wall of short messages from members further along.
  • A Celebration Hub for the wins that nobody else in your life quite understands.
  • Meet someone like me — a gentle way to find members at a similar stage.
  • Gatherings: coffee mornings, walks and small online meet-ups.
3

How we keep it a safe place

A members’ club, not social media.

  • You choose a display name, never your legal name, and can post anonymously at any time.
  • Your journal, documents and personal details are private to you and never shown to other members.
  • Every discussion is moderated against clear community guidelines.
  • Members share personal experience only — nobody here gives professional or legal advice.
  • Nothing shared inside is repeated outside: no screenshots, no naming individuals.

Getting started in ten minutes

Small steps, in whatever order suits you.

  • Create an account and choose how you want to appear to other members.
  • Read a few discussions before you write anything at all.
  • Say hello in the topic that matches where you are right now.
  • Mark one reply as helpful — it quietly guides the next person who arrives.

Questions about joining

Is the divorce support community free to join?

Yes. Joining the community, reading, posting, the Hope Wall and the basic private journal are all free. Extra organising tools are available on Pro.

Can I post anonymously?

Yes. You choose a display name rather than your legal name, and you can post anonymously on any individual post. Anonymous stays anonymous.

Is this a divorce organisation or a charity giving advice?

Unknotted is a support community, not a legal or advisory organisation. Katie founded it after her own divorce; she is not a lawyer or mediator, and nothing here is professional advice.

What if I am not ready to talk yet?

That is completely fine. Many members read for weeks before posting a word. There is no expectation on you here.

Come and sit with us for a while

You can read quietly, share a little, or ask the question you have been carrying around for weeks.
